WashU community invited to civic dialogue event, meal

A civic dialogue event, The Longest Table, is returning to WashU next week with a new location and a new topic of conversation. On Thursday, Sept. 5, the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement will welcome students, faculty and staff to Brookings Quadrangle to share dinner and to discuss the upcoming election.

The Department of Jewish, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies in Arts & Sciences will host a conversation between WashU’s Lee Epstein and Barak Medina, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, on freedom of speech in the U.S. and Israel. Chancellor Andrew D. Martin will moderate the talk.

‘Capturing Nature’ exhibit

Stop by the Thomas Gallery in Olin Library to view the “Capturing Nature” exhibit, on display through Dec. 15. The exhibit, curated in collaboration with the Bernard Becker Medical Library, Missouri Botanical Garden’s Peter Raven Library and the Julian Edison Department of Special Collections, highlights the ways in which humans capture, study and use plants.
