Using physics to create diamonds
Physics graduate student Zack Rehfuss, in Arts & Sciences, works at the limits of pressure and temperature to create diamonds and advance quantum science. With support from a WashU program, he also has launched a startup.

Kathleen Finneran, acclaimed memoirist, 68
Kathleen Finneran, senior writer-in-residence in English in Arts & Sciences and author of the celebrated memoir “The Tender Land: A Family Love Story” (2000), died Feb. 14. She was 68. A memorial service will take place Feb. 28.
