Do not open until 2065: Time capsule celebrates history of WashU athletics
Buried in the cornerstone of Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center, a time capsule placed Nov. 7 contains a 2015 course catalog; a piece of the Francis Gym floor; an original Red Alert shirt; and a letter from Athletic Director Emeritus John Schael to the athletic director of 2065.
A message to the future; a glimpse into the past
The Washington University community is invited to create a time capsule for the cornerstone of the Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center, set to open late next summer. When it is opened in 2065, this time capsule hopefully will fare better than its predecessor – the recently recovered 1902 time capsule from Francis Gymnasium that sustained water damage.
See you in 50 years!
A time capsule containing items donated by students, Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton, Dean James E. McLeod, WUSTL Dining Services and others to describe life at WUSTL in 2011 was buried on the South 40 during a ceremony April 2. It will be opened again during the Class of 2011’s 50th reunion in 2061.
