Amy B. Kweskin, associate vice chancellor for finance and treasurer at the university, has been named vice chancellor for finance and chief financial officer, Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton announced. The appointment is effective Jan. 1. Kweskin will succeed Barbara A. Feiner, who retires Dec. 31.

Gary A. Silverman, MD, PhD, has been named the Harriet B. Spoehrer Professor and head of the Department of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine. With the new appointment, effective in April, Silverman will become pediatrician-in-chief at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and executive director of the Children’s Discovery Institute, a partnership of the school and the hospital.

A team at the School of Engineering & Applied Science found that tomato plants that received zinc oxide and titanium dioxide nanoparticles better absorbed light and minerals and that the fruit had higher antioxidant content. The study was published online in the journal Metallomics.

Bears Repeating, the blog of University Archives, highlights the story behind an exhibit now on display in Olin Library. The exhibit features photos taken by university alumni Thomas Allen Jr. and William Sachtleben in 1891 as they trekked by bicycle through Greece, Turkey and beyond. The exhibit runs through Jan. 10.
