On its 10-year anniversary, the university’s McDonnell International Scholars Academy has much to celebrate: a strong network of 29 partner research universities around the world, 67 scholars in residence, 72 academy alumni and countless collaborations and connections. The McDonnell Academy is hosting an alumni workshop today through Sunday, Nov. 8.

The James Bond of film forever sips martinis and remains unaffected by his own life of violence. That Bond is unflappable and aloof — in marked contrast to the character described in Ian Fleming’s novels, said Colin Burnett. The new Bond movie “Spectre” opens this weekend, and film scholar Burnett, of Arts & Sciences, said the character finally returns to his emotional roots.

The documentary film “A Spark of Nerve” details School of Medicine surgeon Susan E. Mackinnon’s decades-long tenacity in pioneering a nerve-transfer procedure that restores arm and hand movement and sensation in patients. The film will debut at 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at the 24th annual St. Louis International Film Festival.
