Have birds bounced back from West Nile?

University scientists collaborated on the first study to fully document the demographic impacts of West Nile virus on North American bird populations. Data from bird-banding stations shows more species were hit than suspected, and half of those have yet to recover. The results were published in the Nov. 2 issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Students honor medical faculty, house staff

To show their appreciation for exemplary service in medical education, School of Medicine students presented the school’s faculty and house staff with the Distinguished Service Teaching Awards for the 2014-15 academic year. The honors are initiated by students and implemented with support from the Office of Medical Student Education.

New FoodShare app helps fight hunger

The new app FoodShare allows users to donate a meal for every meal purchased at a participating restaurant. Developed by Andrew Glantz, a junior in Olin Business School, the app ​is a finalist for the Mobileys, a nationwide competition that honors entrepreneurs who make a difference through mobile innovation.

Daum to speak next week on ‘Truth in Writing’

In her writing, author Meghan Daum uses moments from everyday life to explore the broader issues of today. Her Assembly Series lecture “Truth in Writing,” which is also the Woman’s Club lecture, will take place at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, in Hillman Hall.
