University scientists collaborated on the first study to fully document the demographic impacts of West Nile virus on North American bird populations. Data from bird-banding stations shows more species were hit than suspected, and half of those have yet to recover. The results were published in the Nov. 2 issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Developed by Andrew Glantz, a junior in Olin Business School, the app is a finalist for the Mobileys, a nationwide competition that honors entrepreneurs who make a difference through mobile innovation.
