Art, guns and rebooting the conversation

Buchman named new head of otolaryngology​

Craig A. Buchman, MD, a nationally recognized leader in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery, has been named head of the Department of Otolaryngology at the School of Medicine. He replaces Richard A. Chole, MD, PhD, who, after leading the department for 17 years, is stepping down to focus on research and patient care.

‘Beasts of No Nation’ and the politics of ambiguity

Historian Jean Allman, PhD, director of the Center for the Humanities in Arts & Sciences, writes about the newly released Netflix film “Beasts of No Nation,” which portrays the 1990s civil wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone, but was filmed in Ghana. She questions the consequences of perpetuating ambiguity about Africa.
