​Students connect service to studies

Engineering students traveled to Guatemala this summer to fix medical equipment at the nation’s largest public hospital. Washington University Guatemala Initiative is one of several student groups that conducts meaningful service abroad with the Gephardt Institute’s support.

In kids and young adults with asthma, pay attention to weight gain

Robert Strunk, MD, at the School of Medicine, led a study following patients with asthma from childhood into young adulthood. It shows those who become obese as they grow into young adulthood progress toward worse lung function.

Parvulescu to give humanities lecture on laughter

Anca Parvulescu, PhD, professor of English in Arts & Sciences, will give a lecture next week titled “Can Wolves Laugh? Modernist Laughter in the Magic Theater.” The Assembly Series talk, also the final installment of the Humanities Lecture Series, will be at noon Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge.

Obituary: Robert J. Iversen, 39, law student

Robert J. Iversen, a third-year student in the School of Law, died recently. Iversen was 39. An accomplished and involved law student, Iversen was expected to earn his juris doctoris in May 2016.
