Watching his grandparents struggle at the end of their long lives has motivated Chris Carpenter, MD, an associate professor of emergency medicine at the School of Medicine, to work countless hours to improve emergency room care for older adults and to help create a new medical subspecialty — geriatric emergency medicine.

Smith analyzes Boehner resignation; also to speak on polarization tonight

Steven S. Smith, PhD, an expert on congressional politics, says U.S. House Speaker John Boehner stepped aside because he wasn’t able to pacify Tea Party Republicans. Smith will address political polarization tonight to kick off a lecture series presented by the Weidenbaum Center on the Economy, Government, and Public Policy.

AT&T commits $400,000 to College Prep Program

AT&T, through its signature education initiative AT&T Aspire, has committed $400,000 to the university’s College Prep Program. The program helps low-income students from across the St. Louis region connect with other talented students and prepare for success in college.

Dissemination and Implementation Speaker Series begins Wednesday

The Center for Dissemination and Implementation at the Institute for Public Health kicks off its 2015-16 speaker series Wednesday. Ross A. Hammond, PhD, a senior fellow in economic studies at the Brookings Institution, will discuss policy factors that influence health.

Overseas diversity program holds lunch sessions, photo display

The university’s Global Diversity Overseas Seminar program is holding brown-bag presentations on Wednesday, Sept. 30, and Oct. 21, where those who traveled to South Korea this year will discuss their experiences. Also, a collection of photos from the trip is on display in Olin Library until Oct. 12.
