Bringing neuroscience to area students

Erik D. Herzog, PhD, of Arts & Sciences, always knew he wanted to be a scuba-diving scientist. Now, as an Institute for School Partnership faculty fellow, he’s working to encourage St. Louis-area schoolchildren to dream of becoming neuroscientists. He’s also helping graduate students present their research in a fun way to the general public.

Sam Fox School launches lecture series Monday

Architect and structural engineer Guy Nordenson, who began his career as a draftsman for R. Buckminster Fuller and Isamu Noguchi, will launch the Sam Fox School’s fall Public Lecture Series with a free talk at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14. In all, the series will feature 10 presentations by nationally and internationally known artists, architects, curators and designers.

Obituary: Timothy Burnight, doctoral student in physical therapy, 28

Timothy Blair Burnight, 28, a doctoral candidate in the Program in Physical Therapy at the School of Medicine, died unexpectedly Sept. 4 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. A gathering to express condolences to the family will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, in Park Ridge, Ill.

Flags to be lowered in remembrance of 9/11

The university will pause today to remember the lives lost in the terror attacks of Sept. 11. The university and U.S. flags will be lowered to half-staff, and the chimes in Graham Chapel will toll at 9:28 a.m., the time the World Trade Center’s North Tower collapsed.
