Shannon Wood, principal timpani for the St. Louis Symphony, will debut a new work Sunday, Sept. 13, in the 560 Music Center. The piece seeks to capture the rhythms and flavors of life in Sicily. The premiere is part of “Symphony in Your College,” a free concert presented by the Department of Music in Arts & Sciences and the St. Louis Symphony.

The Kemper Art Museum will host an opening reception at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, for three exhibitions: “World War I: War of Images, Images of War,” “Rotation 2: Contemporary Art from the Peter Norton Gift” and “Relationships and Representation: Perspectives on Social Justice Work.” This fall, the museum will present nearly two-dozen free public events.
The Tri My Best Triathlon is an event for school-age children with motor disorders. The kids will swim, bike and run, with adaptations as needed, from 8 a.m. until noon Sunday, Sept. 13, on the Danforth Campus. Organizers hope students and others can help cheer on the young athletes.
