Following a weeklong orientation that focused on health disparities and public health, first-year students at the School of Medicine got their hands dirty working at urban gardens in St. Louis. The students volunteered with a nonprofit organization that works to establish and sustain green spaces in neighborhoods across the city.

Seventeen law students spent the summer completing international internships, offering free legal services and completing public-interest work for legal aid groups, nongovernmental organizations and international courts from Italy to Nepal to South Africa. Among the legal areas they worked in were immigration, housing, family and criminal law.
