University welcomes Class of 2019

Washington University welcomes one of the largest and most diverse classes in its history. About 1,730 students from all 50 states and 23 countries moved into their residential colleges Aug. 20 with the help of approximately 350 faculty, staff and student volunteers.​

Picking up the phone to improve seniors’ mental health

A new study in JAMA Psychiatry shows that therapy provided via telephone for older adults in rural areas is effective in treating anxiety disorder. In an accompanying editorial, Eric J. Lenze, MD, of the School of Medicine, wrote that the health-care system lacks the capacity to help the growing elderly population and that relying too heavily on sedatives isn’t the answer.​
