Women who have gastric bypass surgery to lose weight should keep a close eye on their alcohol consumption, according to a School of Medicine study. The researchers found that changes in how alcohol is metabolized after surgery can speed its delivery into the bloodstream, resulting in earlier and higher peaks in blood-alcohol levels.

A cargo container launched Wednesday from the southern coast of Japan should reach the International Space Station on Monday. The container is carrying CALET, an astrophysical observatory designed to study the high-energy cosmos, including the rare ultra-heavy nuclei, of long interest to the university’s astrophysicists.

The aMoBT model provides materials design guidelines that could speed development of lower-cost solar cells. The results of the work recently were published in Physical Review B.
