Eye’s motion detection sensors identified

Studying mice, scientists at the School of Medicine have identified a neural circuit in the retina that carries signals enabling the eye to detect movement. The finding could help in efforts to build artificial retinas for people who have suffered vision loss.

Chenyang Lu, PhD, of the School of Engineering & Applied Science, has been named the inaugural Fullgraf Professor. He was installed at a ceremony held on campus in March.

Obituary: Marie Taris, assistant to math chair, 46

Marie Cendrine Taris, assistant to the chair of the Department of Mathematics in Arts & Sciences, died after a sudden illness Tuesday, June 2, at St. Mary’s Health Center in Richmond Heights. She was 46.

Fair Saint Louis to use several WashU parking areas July 2-4

Fair Saint Louis​ will be held July 2-4 in Forest Park. In the spirit of community partnership, and given the proximity of the park to campus, Washington University is sponsoring Fair Saint Louis by again providing access to several campus parking areas during the fair, beginning at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2.

Campus parking rates to increase

Annual parking permits expire June 30. Prices for red, yellow, blue, brown, green, North Campus, Bearly Drivers, official business and evening permits have increased for the 2015-16 school year. The price for other permits hasn’t changed. Permits can be renewed online or at the Parking and Transportation Services office on North Campus.

Duncan entrance to Children’s garage reopens

The St. Louis Children’s Hospital staff garage entrance and exit along Duncan Avenue reopened yesterday, and the garage entrance and exit along Newstead Avenue closed and is expected to remain closed for six weeks. Newstead Avenue remains open.
