Scientists find way to disrupt brain tumor cells

Some brain tumors are notoriously difficult to treat. Brain tumor stem cells can resist treatment and regrow tumors. But School of Medicine researchers, led by Albert Kim, MD, PhD, have identified a vulnerability in these cells that could lead to a new approach in battling such tumors.

Helping students learn better

Lecture-based learning can be challenging for students who have difficulty building mental models for the organization of new information. But providing them with diagrams and other supporting material in advance of the lecture can help them overcome these hurdles, suggests new psychology research from Arts & Sciences.

McKinnon to help guide instruments headed to Jupiter moon

Scientists have been itching to go to Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons, for a long time because it’s thought to have a global ocean that may be hospitable to life beneath an outer shell of ice. NASA selected nine instruments to fly on a mission to Europa. Arts & Sciences’ William McKinnon, PhD, who is on the science team for two of the instruments, discusses the mission.

Danforth Campus operator hours changing

Danforth Campus phone operators, who provide campus phone numbers, will be available from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, beginning July 1. The main operator number is 314-935-5000.

Traffic delays expected on eastbound Forest Park Avenue

Contractors have begun pouring concrete on the metal decking of the new Barnes-Jewish Hospital tower. The work may lead to intermittent delays for several months on eastbound Forest Park Avenue east of Kingshighway Boulevard.
