It’s no secret that animals and people share many of the same diseases. Physicians at the School of Medicine are realizing how much we could learn by collaborating with veterinarians and designing trials to treat animals’ diseases. The connections between canine and human cancers could lead to mutually beneficial therapies.

Kristina Kleutghen, PhD, has been selected as the inaugural David W. Mesker Career Development Professor of art history in Arts & Sciences. A specialist in early modern and modern Chinese art, Kleutghen’s research investigates Sino-foreign interaction, the imperial court, optical devices and connections to visual culture, science and mathematics.

Tax-time savings programs help low- and moderate-income families save significantly more of their refunds than those who choose not to participate, finds an analysis of such a program called $aveNYC. The study was co-authored by the Brown School’s Michal Grinstein-Weiss, PhD, associate director of the Center for Social Development.
