Study finds 1.2 percent of preschoolers on Medicaid use psychotropic drugs

A new study finds that 1.2 percent of American preschool children on Medicaid are using psychotropic drugs, including antidepressants, mood stabilizers and medications for attention-deficit disorder. Co-author Ramesh Raghavan, MD, PhD, says use of these drugs by such young children is worrisome.

Epstein installed as Ethan A.H. Shepley Distinguished University Professor

Lee Epstein, PhD, was recently installed as the Ethan A.H. Shepley Distinguished University Professor during a ceremony in Holmes Lounge. Epstein spent much of her early career at Washington University and returned last year after a span of prestigious positions at other leading universities.

Student musicians on the Medical Campus brought their voices, instruments and musical prowess to the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center for a Coffeehouse performance last week.

David Dwight IV, a senior in the School of Engineering & Applied Science, knows there are many ways to pursue social justice. One path for him is as an ambassador for urban arts program City Faces. Dwight recently won Mr. Wash. U., an annual talent show that benefits the organization.

IDEA Labs Demo Day May 1

IDEA Labs will host its third annual Demo Day starting at 6 p.m. May 1. Undergraduate and graduate students from the Medical and Danforth campuses will demonstrate prototypes for inventions they created to solve a variety of health-care problems. Reservations are requested.
