With the scholarship and expertise of university scholars as a backdrop, the Washington University community will come together to explore the important issues of race and ethnicity at a universitywide event to be held Thursday and Friday, Feb. 5 and 6.

It’s normal for a young child to have tantrums and be otherwise disruptive. But researchers have found that if such behavior is prolonged or especially intense, the child may have conduct disorder, a childhood psychiatric problem that could be a harbinger of antisocial behavior. Joan L. Luby, MD, led the research.

The Green Monday movement, which urges consumers to consider how their food choices affect public health and the environment, is coming to Washington University. The program will ask students, faculty and staff to eat vegetarian one day a week. Sponsors are the Office of Sustainability, Dining Services and food service partners Bon Appétit and Aramark.

The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will launch its spring Public Lecture Series with talks by architect Javier Maroto (tonight) and artist Carrie Mae Weems (Feb. 2). Weems is a 2013 recipient of the MacArthur Foundation “genius grant.” The Kemper Art Museum recently acquired her “Untitled (Colored People Grid).”

Endless Electronics, a locally owned computer, tablet and smartphone repair business, has moved into the final retail space at The Lofts of Washington University on the Delmar Loop, an $80 million residential and retail project. The business opens to the public Feb. 14 and joins retail tenants Peacock Loop Diner and United Provisions, a full-service grocery store.
