Vaccines may make war on cancer personal

In the near future, physicians may treat some cancer patients with personalized vaccines that spur their immune systems to attack malignant tumors. New research led by School of Medicine scientists, including senior author Robert Schreiber, PhD, has brought the approach one step closer to reality.

Danforth, Lieberman to discuss role of religion in politics Tuesday

Former U.S. Sens. John C. Danforth and Joe Lieberman will discuss “The Role of Religion in America’s Broken Politics” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, in Graham Chapel. The John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics is sponsoring the open event.

Wickline receives chancellor’s innovation award

Samuel A. Wickline, MD, has been chosen to receive the Chancellor’s Award for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Wickline will receive the honor Saturday, Dec. 6. Faculty achievement awards will be presented to David A. Balota, PhD, and Steven L. Teitelbaum, MD.

Giammar named Browne Professor in Environmental Engineering

Daniel Giammar, PhD, has been named the Walter E. Browne Professor in Environmental Engineering in the School of Engineering & Applied Science. Giammar, who was installed this week, has been on the engineering faculty since 2002.

Recycle old holiday lights on campus

Faculty, staff and students can bring burned-out or unwanted holiday lights to campus to be recycled. Sustainability officials are partnering with StLouisGreen.com on the initiative, and drop-off locations are available on the Danforth and Medical campuses until mid-January.

Bear Necessities annual holiday sale next week

Bear Necessities, in Umrath House, is holding its annual holiday sale Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 9 and 10. The Women’s Society operates the nonprofit store, whose proceeds fund the Elizabeth Gray Danforth Scholarship endowment.
