Three faculty members at Washington University have been named fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world’s largest general scientific society. They are Mary C. Dinauer, MD, PhD, and David M. Holtzman, MD, of the School of Medicine, and Robert G. Kranz, PhD, of Arts & Sciences.

Sadie Pierce (left) and her partner, Lilly Leyh, became the first same-sex couple to legally marry in Missouri earlier this month. Leyh is set to graduate in May with master’s degrees in social work and business administration, and Pierce is a recent alum of the Brown School.

The antibiotic azithromycin may reduce the risk of recurrent wheezing in infants hospitalized with a common respiratory infection, according to a small pilot study at the School of Medicine. Reduced wheezing may lower an infant’s risk of developing asthma over the next several years, according to the researchers, including first author Avraham Beigelman, MD.
