People with social anxiety come across better than they might think, study finds

Making friends is often difficult for people with social anxiety disorder, and, making matters worse, people with this disorder tend to assume their friendships are not of high quality. The problem with this perception, new psychology research from Arts & Sciences suggests, is that their friends don’t necessarily see it that way.

Washington People: Justin Serugo

After fleeing his war-torn homeland, the Democratic Republic of Congo, a decade ago, Justin Serugo was relocated to St. Louis, where he eventually landed a job at the School of Medicine. He now works on a project to combat child malnutrition in Africa and Asia.

University receives grant to host Amgen Scholars Program

Washington University has been awarded a grant from the Amgen Foundation that will provide hands-on laboratory experience to undergraduate students through the Amgen Scholars Program. This marks the fifth year the university is participating in the program.

‘Bubble Trouble’ show Saturday mixes bubble art and science

​A bubble volcano? A bubble roller coaster? In “Bubble Trouble,” Jeff Boyer takes bubble art and science to illogical extremes. He’ll present an inventive mix of comedy, music and jaw-dropping bubble technology at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, in Edison Theatre. It’s part of the ovations for young people series.
