Americans drink less when cigarettes cost more

School of Medicine researchers Melissa Krauss and Richard Grucza, PhD, led a team that analyzed data from all 50 states and found that higher cigarette taxes and policies prohibiting smoking in public places are associated with a decrease in alcohol consumption.

Assembly Series to tackle issue of energy impoverishment

In “Fires, Fuel & the Fate of 3 Billion: The State of the Energy Impoverished,” Brown School Professor Gautam N. Yadama, PhD, and photographer Mark Katzman present a complex issue in rural India through personal stories of struggle and survival. On Monday, Oct. 13, Yadama will present his work for the Assembly Series and the School of Law speaker series.

Perloff to receive university’s International Humanities Medal

Poetry scholar Marjorie Perloff will receive the university’s 2014 International Humanities Medal. Granted biennially, the $25,000 award is the largest prize from an American institution to cover the broad spectrum of the humanities.
