‘Divided City’ project to examine segregation from variety of perspectives

This fall, the Center for the Humanities in Arts & Sciences and the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will launch “The Divided City: An Urban Humanities Initiative.” The $1.6 million project — funded in part by a four-year, $650,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation — will examine segregation from a variety of perspectives.

Discovery may lead to better treatments for autoimmune diseases, bone loss

Scientists at the School of Medicine have developed an approach to creating treatments for osteoporosis and autoimmune diseases that may avoid the risk of infection and cancer posed by some current medications. Jazz at Holmes celebrates Gaslight Square

In the 1950s and ’60s, Gaslight Square hosted a who’s who of American entertainers — everyone from Lenny Bruce to Miles Davis to Barbra Streisand. Washington University will pay homage today to Gaslight Square with a special Jazz at Holmes concert.

The DUC Presents: Mini-golf

Students play glow golf in Danforth University Center during a DUC Presents event sponsored by the Inter-Fraternity Council and Women’s Panhellenic Association. The next DUC Presents event will take place Oct. 4. The International and Area Studies honorary society, SIR, will host a cultural expo.

Emergency communication system test rescheduled

WUSTL will test its emergency communication system, WUSTLAlerts, at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, rather than today, as previously scheduled. The test will take place unless there is a potential for severe weather or an emergency is occurring.
