New research suggests that schizophrenia isn’t a single disease but a group of eight genetically distinct disorders, each with its own set of symptoms. The finding could be a first step toward improved diagnosis and treatment for the debilitating psychiatric illness. C. Robert Cloninger, MD, PhD, was a senior investigator of the study.

Open Streets initiatives temporarily close streets to traffic so people may use them for walking, bicycling, dancing, playing and socializing. Although the movement is gaining popularity in the United States, little is known about planning and implementing them. Brown School researchers Amy Eyler, PhD, and J. Aaron Hipp, PhD, explore these initiatives and recommend ways to help organizers succeed.

The university has been named “Best Workplace for Commuters” (more than 100 employees category) by Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT), a leading regional advocate for light rail and public transportation. Kim Cella, CMT’s executive director said the university’s varied menu of alternative transportation programs benefits the university community and the St. Louis region.
