From bellhop to hospitalist, his work ethic stands out
Mark Thoelke’s work ethic has contributed to his success in starting and leading the hospitalist division at the School of Medicine. He has been called “the doctor’s doctor,” a term that refers to a physician whom another physician would recommend to family and friends.

Today, for the first time, the majority of the world’s population lives in cities and urban areas. The Kemper Art Museum presents “Encountering the City: The Urban Experience in Contemporary Art,” opening Friday, Sept. 12. The exhibition explores how artists respond to, and grapple with, our rapidly changing urban landscape.

Only recently has it become possible to accurately “see” a liquid’s structure. Using X-rays and a high-tech apparatus, university physicist Kenneth F. Kelton, PhD, has compared the behavior of glass-forming liquids as they approach the glass transition. The results demonstrate that bulk properties like viscosity are linked to microscopic ones like structure.
