The university’s Global Health Center selected five WUSTL students for its inaugural summer research program. Students such as Laura Bliss, a second-year medical student, worked with faculty mentors to explore issues including malnutrition, maternal health and access to health care.

| In March 2010, the ice sheets in Antarctica vibrated more than usual as a surface wave from an earthquake in Chile — 3,000 kilometers away — passed through the ice. This was the first observation of triggered quakes in the ice. WUSTL seismologist Doug Wiens, PhD, says POLENET, an array of seismic stations that reaches into the interior of Antarctica, made the discovery possible.

WUSTL has joined forces with Operation Food Search to collect food for Ferguson and surrounding communities. Pick up some items this weekend and drop them off at bins throughout campus. Bins are available until Wednesday, Sept. 3.
