Students gain firsthand global health experience in Haiti

This summer, 14 Brown School students joined Lora Iannotti, PhD, on a trip to Haiti. The goal: Gain firsthand experience in issues related to global health, including health policy, epidemiology, biostatistics and program planning.

A passionate activist talks about his city

Bob Hansman, associate professor in the Sam Fox School, is passionate about St. Louis. Over the last two weeks, he has ushered hundreds of students through the neighborhoods of north St. Louis, chronicling the the area’s racial, social and urban histories. He also will be part of tonight’s panel discussion about Michael Brown.

WUSTL scientists among world’s most influential

Eighteen university scientists are among the best and brightest scientific minds of our time, according to Thomson Reuters’ ScienceWatch 2014. Among them is The Genome Institute’s Richard K. Wilson, PhD, who has multiple ‘hot’ papers — those that make up the top 0.1 percent of citations, an indicator of groundbreaking work with widespread influence.

Service First, fair offer first-year students opportunity to make impact

​​First-year students will volunteer at 10 local schools on Saturday, Aug. 30, before attending the all-class Service Fair, showcasing 50 community service organizations. Stephanie Kurtzman, director of the university’s Community Service Office, calls service a win-win-win.

Obituary: D. Tab Rasmussen, professor of anthropology, 56​

D. Tab Rasmussen, PhD, professor of anthropology in Arts & Sciences, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, after an accident at his home in Edwardsville, Ill. He was 56. Rasmussen was a highly recognized physical anthropologist specializing in paleontology and behavioral ecology, especially among primates.
