School of Medicine to host town hall meetings for faculty, staff, students

In response to the tragic events in Ferguson, the School of Medicine will host a series of town hall meetings for faculty, staff and students beginning today. A key objective is to identify how members of the Medical Campus can help Ferguson, its residents and the entire St. Louis region.

Provost highlights lab safety with new faculty

Provost H. Holden Thorp, PhD, dons safety glasses during a new faculty orientation last week in Umrath Hall Lounge on the Danforth Campus. Thorp says the university has an obligation to instill a culture that promotes safety.

Proteins critical to wound healing identified

New School of Medicine research has possible implications for treating diseases involving abnormal blood vessel growth, including in the skin and eye. Mice missing two important proteins of the vascular system develop normally and appear healthy in adulthood as long as they’re not injured. If they are, their wounds don’t heal properly, a new study shows.

Olin Business School and the Human Rights Campaign — the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans — hosted an LGBT Workplace Inclusion Conference in Bauer Hall earlier this month.

IDEA Labs applications due Sept. 7

IDEA Labs is a bioengineering design incubator founded in 2012. Student teams hear from faculty about health-care-related problems and build prototypes of inventions to address them. Student applications to join a team or to be a project manager are due Sept. 7.
