The Lofts of Washington University development opens for business, students

The Lofts of Washington University, a new $80 million mixed-use development, brings green architecture, new residents and, at last, a grocery store to the Delmar Loop. On Aug. 23, about 400 undergraduates will move into The Lofts’ fully furnished apartments.

WUSTL part of group awarded $20 million for climate variability research

As part of a multi-institutional $20 million effort, WUSTL researchers will conduct several studies, including one that uses medical imaging on plants (right) to see what’s broken inside. Researchers will receive funding from the National Science Foundation for work aimed at helping Missouri plants adapt to climate variability.

McCune to direct Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowships

​Jeffrey McCune, PhD, associate professor in Arts & Sciences, has been named director of the unversity’s Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program. Funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in New York, the program aims to increase diversity in higher education by encouraging talented but underrepresented students to pursue doctorates in the humanities and social sciences.

Many depressed preschoolers suffer in later years

Children diagnosed with depression as preschoolers are likely to suffer from depression as school-age children and young adolescents, research shows. Depressed preschoolers were 2.5 times more likely to suffer from depression in later school years than other children, according to School of Medicine researchers.

Vandeventer exit re-opens

The Vandeventer Avenue exit from eastbound Interstate 64/Highway 40 will reopen about noon today (Aug. 8). The work is part of efforts to improve traffic flow around the Medical Center.
