An anchor tenant in WUSTL’s new Delmar Loop development will fulfill a long-time need along Delmar Boulevard: a grocery store, operated by Global Foods Market. Another tenant will be the Peacock Loop Diner, operated by Joe Edwards, owner of Blueberry Hill. The $80 million retail and student apartment complex will be called The Lofts of Washington University.

A key brain structure that regulates emotions works differently in preschoolers with depression compared with their healthy peers, according to new research at the School of Medicine. Brain scans of preschoolers with depression revealed elevated activity in the amygdala, shown in the red circle, when compared with scans of young children exhibiting no signs of depression.

Brent Williams, PhD, of the School of Engineering & Applied Science, has received a nearly $300,000 Early Career grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to bring his expertise in measuring particles in the atmosphere to a national study of climate trends in the southeastern United States as well as the St. Louis area.

Parking and Transportation Services is working on enhancements to campus parking garages this summer and next. This summer’s focus is on the Millbrook and Snow Way parking facilities. Walls, ceilings and columns are being painted white to better reflect light, and blue paint will make emergency phones easier to spot from afar.

On Aug. 12, a northbound lane of Kingshighway Boulevard and the adjoining sidewalk north of Children’s Place will close to prepare for demolition related to revitalizing the Medical Center’s north campus. Employees are encouraged to use alternate routes to work during construction to ease the impact on hospital patients and visitors.

An Olin Library exhibition, William H. Gass: The Soul Inside the Sentence, ends July 31. But a newly launched digital version allows for ongoing exploration of the esteemed writer’s drafts, photos and more. A gallery talk and tour of the in-person exhibition will be at 9 a.m. Friday, July 19, in Olin Library’s Ginkgo Reading Room.
