Global Health Week, Sept. 23-27, is a chance to highlight WUSTL’s global leadership on health. Through a series of events, the public can enjoy Ethiopian dance, Argentinian music, or hear from the former president and health minister of Ecuador. Global Health Scholars, medical students and undergraduates also will discuss their outreach efforts, locally and beyond.

The Career Center will host its first STEM Slam Tuesday and the traditional Fall Career Fair a day later. Twenty recruiters from top STEM-related businesses will make 45-second pitches to students. Recruiters say smaller, more-focused events help them better connect with students.

This fall, Hold That Thought, a weekly podcast series from Arts & Sciences, will team up with WUSTL’s American Culture Studies program. Together, they’re exploring the question of what it means to be an American, both today and throughout the country’s history.

A balloon-borne telescope is heading to the edge of the atmosphere. X-Calibur, as it’s known, will look at exotic astronomical objects, such as black holes. WUSTL physicist Henric Krawczynski, PhD, in Arts & Sciences, is leading the experiment. The team is racing to be ready for the stratospheric wind event they hope to ride.

WUSTL researchers plan to use high-tech methods to study the ways plants move iron from soil, through water and into the plants. The Global Diversity Overseas Seminar Program hosts a photo exhibit and reception in the Weitman Gallery, Steinberg Hall, 4:30–6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17. Six WUSTL staff members traveled to Chile in June through the program and explored diversity and social justice issues.
