?Notes From No Man’s Land, the book selected for WUSTL’s 2013-14 First Year Reading Program, examines race in America through the unique perspective of author Eula Biss. Biss weaves her own experiences through essays about mixed families, lynchings, Americans behaving badly in Mexico, being a white reporter at an African-American newspaper, teaching at an inner-city school and much more.?

Scientists show how nerve wiring self-destructs

Many medical conditions destroy nerve axons, the long wires that transmit signals to other parts of the body. Now, researchers have found a way the body can remove injured axons, identifying a potential target for new drugs that could prevent the inappropriate loss of axons and maintain nerve function.

May 20 forum honors Weidenbaum’s lifelong accomplishments

Renowned economists will gather Monday, May 20, for a forum highlighting the accomplishments of  Murray Weidenbaum, PhD, founder and honorary chairman of WUSTL’s Weidenbaum Center on the Economy, Government, and Public Policy. A highly influential economist and policy adviser, Weidenbaum (pictured with Ronald Reagan) has a legacy that began in the 1960s.

Sam Fox School celebrates 27th annual University City Sculpture Series

What you see often depends on where you stand. For Sarah Theis, a senior in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, this simple truth served as the starting point for A Play of Perception. Now installed in Mooney Park, the sculpture is one of five featured in this year’s University City Sculpture Series.

ROTC commissioning ceremony on campus today

The director of the U.S. Army’s Center for Army Leadership will travel from Fort Leavenworth, Kan., to preside over the St. Louis-area Army ROTC commissioning ceremony for graduates from WUSTL, along with Saint Louis, Maryville, Lindenwood and Webster universities.
