Scientists’ picture of how a gene strongly linked to Alzheimer’s disease harms the brain may have to be revised, researchers at the School of Medicine have found. David M. Holtzman, MD, says leading researchers have agreed that targeting this gene is a promising approach to gain a better understanding of, and improve treatments for,
the disease.

His mentor, the School of Medicine’s Eric Leuthardt, MD, at right, tries the application. It challenges players to use thought to manipulate a flying brain icon past obstacles.

The Brown School held its annual alumni awards celebration April 17. Leaders awarded one Distinguished Faculty Award and five Distinguished Alumni Awards. One honoree was selected for the outstanding Graduate of the Last Decade award.

William H. Daughaday, MD, a leading diabetes researcher, world authority on growth hormone and former director of the metabolism division at the School of Medicine, died Friday, May 3, 2013, after a long illness, in Milwaukee. He was 95.
