Passing the torch: CGI U inspires next generation of students to tackle major global issues

As host of the 2013 Clinton Global Initiative University, WUSTL today welcomes more than 1,000 university students from 50 states and 75 nations as they think about pressing global challenges. Here, the Brown School’s Amanda Moore McBride shares how, as a college student, President Bill Clinton made her believe a single person could change the world. Today, in the spirit of CGI U, she helps new generations of students embrace this message.

Painted turtle gets DNA decoded

Scientists have decoded the genome of the western painted turtle, one of the most abundant turtles on Earth, finding clues to their longevity and ability to survive without oxygen during long winters spent hibernating in ice-covered ponds.

The real gladiators: Harvard classicist explores Christians in the Roman arena

We all know the story of the Roman gladiators, right? Not the whole story, says Harvard classicist and adviser to the 2000 blockbuster film Gladiator. On Tuesday, April 9, Kathleen Coleman, DPhil, will explain this fascinating and complex culture for the annual Biggs Lecture in the Classics.

Political scientist Cohen to discuss ‘Race, Sex
and Neoliberalism in the Age of Obama

Author and political scientist Cathy Cohen studies American politics and particularly how they affect African-Americans, women and the LGBTQ community – never ignoring the intersections between these identity categories. She will be on campus Tuesday, April 9, to present a lecture.

The Assoc. of Latin American Students presents Carnaval, a student-run Latin cultural show featuring dances and a skit. Also at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6. Tickets are $10 and are available through Edison Theatre Box Office. Edison Theatre, Mallinckrodt Center.

Car-free Month: April 2013

The offices of Sustainability and Parking and Transportation challenge the WUSTL community to try alternative means of commuting to campus during Car-free Month, April 1-24. Teams with highest number of car-free trips and greatest number of car-free miles will win awards. Friday, April 12, is the last day to register for the Car-free Challenge.
