Inaugural infectious diseases conference brings global health leaders to St. Louis

Infectious disease researchers worldwide will convene April 12 at the School of Medicine to discuss developments and challenges in the field. The conference, which inaugurates WUSTL’s new Center for Global Health and Infectious Diseases, is open to the university community and the public. Online registration by April 1 is encouraged. Pictured, Nigerian patient Joseph Gondovo is receiving treatment for lymphatic filariasis, a tropical disease that can cause grotesquely swollen limbs.

Vote now: Help a WUSTL project win the CGI U bracket challenge

Former President Bill Clinton announced the third annual Clinton Global Initiative University Commitments Challenge, a competition of ideas from college students in the form of a bracket. The KHE Project, a commitment to action by WUSTL Arts & Sciences students Krupa Desai, Henry Osman and Emily Santos, is part of the “Sweet 16” projects selected to compete. Ground broken for Shriners Hospital on Medical Campus

A groundbreaking for a $50 million Shriners Hospitals for Children-St. Louis recently was held on the Medical Center campus. The planned hospital, at the corner of Clayton Road and Newstead Avenue, will replace the Shriners Hospital in Frontenac. Shown is a rendering of what the building will look like from Interstate 64/Highway 40.

Provocative playwright Sarah Ruhl on campus April 3

Playwright Sarah Ruhl, author of the Tony- and Pulitzer-nominated In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play), will discuss her work for the Performing Arts Department April 3. The PAD will produce Ruhl’s provocative, critically acclaimed comedy as its spring Mainstage production April 19-28.
