Skulls of early humans carry telltale signs
of inbreeding, study suggests

Buried for 100,000 years at Xujiayao in the Nihewan Basin of northern China, the recovered skull pieces of an early human exhibit a now-rare congenital deformation that indicates inbreeding might well have been common among our ancestors, new research suggests. Erik Trinkaus, PhD, is study co-author.

Gerald Early to get star on St. Louis Walk of Fame

Arts & Sciences Professor Gerald L. Early, PhD, noted essayist and American culture critic, will receive a star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame  in The Loop. A public ceremony marking Early’s induction will be held on the northeast corner of Delmar and Skinker boulevards, just outside WUSTL’s Corner Building at 11:30 a.m. April 11.

Nine faculty members have joined the School of Engineering & Applied Science this academic year. That marks the largest number of newly recruited faculty to join the school. The new faculty members’ expertise ranges from biomedical to electrical, and energy to mechanical engineering.
