WUSTL’s $80M Loop student apartment/retail development moves forward

WUSTL this week obtained final approval for an $80 million student apartment and retail project in the Delmar Loop in University City and the city of St. Louis. The construction phase is expected to begin next week as the project moves from plan to action.

Jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter, and Salman Khan, founder of the Khan Academy, will join President Bill Clinton at the 2013 Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) at WUSTL April 5-7.

New professorship affirms commitment to STEM education, honors pioneering WUSTL educator

Regina (Gina) F. Frey, PhD, associate professor of STEM education in the Department of Chemistry in Arts & Sciences and executive director of The Teaching Center, today will be installed as the first Florence E. Moog Professor of STEM Education. The professorship honors two of WUSTL’s women scientists, one past and one present, and recognizes the university’s commitment to excel in teaching science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Antibiotics cut death rates for malnourished kids

Severely malnourished children are far more likely to recover and survive when given antibiotics along with a therapeutic peanut-based food than children who are treated with the therapeutic food alone, School of Medicine researchers have found. Eric Hoffman wins Young Architects Award

Eric Hoffman, professor of practice in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, has won a national 2013 Young Architects Award from the American Institute of Architects. Hoffman is the first Sam Fox School faculty member and the first Sam Fox School alumnus (M.Arch ’05) to receive the honor, among the highest available to architects in the early stages of their careers.

Lunar New Year Festival tickets on sale now

The Lunar New Year Festival is an annual student-run production celebrating the Lunar New Year and promoting awareness of the different aspects of Asian culture. Festivities begin with a free fireworks show at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, outside Danforth University Center and conclude with a two-night performance Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8 and 9, in Edison Theatre.

I-CARES offers seed
funding up to $500,000

The International Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Sustainability (I-CARES) has released its 2013 Call for Research Proposals. I-CARES will award up to $500,000 in seed funding for innovative research projects to tenured and tenure-track faculty.
