Earth & Planetary Sciences building dedication honors Scott and Pyong Rudolph

A dedication ceremony was held May 4 to pay tribute to Scott and Pyong Rudolph while giving the Earth & Planetary Sciences building a new name. The Scott Rudolph Hall dedication ceremony was held in Whitaker Hall Auditorium and featured guest speaker and Emmy Award-winning science television show host Bill Nye of “Science Guy” fame.

Outstanding Graduate Malcolm Foley:
College of Arts & Sciences

Malcolm Foley, who will receive degrees in religious studies and finance May 18, has a charisma that draws people to him, whether as an RA in Danforth House, conducting bible study classes on campus, or as an actor on the WUSTL stage. An Outstanding Graduate in the College of Arts & Sciences, Foley will be taking that charisma to Yale Divinity School in the fall.

New technique could identify drugs that help fight broad range of viruses

Results of a new study from the Drug Discovery Center demonstrate the feasibility of a novel strategy in drug discovery: screening large numbers of existing drugs — often already approved for other uses — to see which ones activate genes that boost natural immunity.

Arch Grants awards first $750,000

Ten WUSTL-affiliated entrepreneurs are among the winners of $750,000 in inaugural grants from Arch Grants, the global business plan competition providing $50,000 grants to startups and taking no equity in return.

Celebrating the Week of the Young Child

Children at the Family Learning Center parade around the grounds April 27 as the finale for the celebration of the Week of the Young Child. The parade focused on the cultures of the children at the center. The annual celebration focuses on the needs of young children and their families and recognizes the childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

Women’s golf headed to NCAA championship

The women’s golf team will make its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III championship with an at-large bid to the tournament, which begins Tuesday, May 8. The team is in its fourth season as a varsity sport and is ranked No. 2 in the national women’s coaches’ poll.
