A school for the blind in Ethiopia has a five-year commitment from WUSTL students to help build a water tower because of Todd Coady. Coady, who will graduate May 18 with a bachelor’s of science degree in mechanical engineering, is the Record's Outstanding Graduate from the School of Engineering & Applied Science.

A variety of academic activities are being organized to honor the 100th birthday of Sam Weissman, Manhattan Project scientist and beloved professor who helped convert the Department of Chemistry in Arts & Sciences into a modern research department. A poster session, lecture and symposium will be held Thursday and Friday, May 10 and 11.

Five Arts & Sciences faculty nominated by undergraduate students in the College of Arts & Sciences were honored at the annual ArtSci Council faculty awards recognition ceremony on April 16 in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge. The ArtSci Council changed the name of the award to the James E. McLeod Faculty Recognition Award to honor the beloved dean.

Nigar Kirmani, MD, and Douglas Larsen, MD, have been selected to receive the 2012-14 Carol B. and Jerome T. Loeb Teaching Fellowships at Washington University School of Medicine. The fellowship program was established in 2004 by a gift from the Loebs to advance clinical education and to honor local physicians committed to clinical excellence.

The second annual Lavender Recognition Ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, in College Hall in the South 40 House. Co-hosted by LGBT Student Involvement and Leadership and the Social Justice Center, the ceremony honors the achievements and contributions of graduating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students and their allies.
