Major gift from Wells Fargo Advisors supports Olin, Brown school initiatives

A new gift of $5,350,000 from Wells Fargo Advisors to WUSTL will support initiatives in the university’s Olin Business School and the Brown School. The initiatives are designed to: enhance and strengthen teaching and research; apply new knowledge for positive societal change; and create pathways for the exchange of ideas between business and academia.

Outstanding Graduates Katie Callaghan & Mickey Turner: Olin Business School

Mickey Turner and Katie Callaghan, the Record’s Outstanding Graduates from Olin Business School, knew when they met at MBA orientation in fall 2010 that their relationship would be more than a standard business alliance. The couple will be married this July.

Warfarin no better than aspirin for most heart failure patients

Results of one of the largest studies of heart failure to date show that warfarin is no better than aspirin in reducing the combined risks of brain hemorrhage, stroke and death in most heart failure patients. Clinicians now have reassurance that aspirin is safe for heart failure patients with a normal heart rhythm, according to study co-author Douglas L. Mann, MD.

The Women’s Society of Washington University honored the legacy of two of the university’s most revered women at its annual meeting April 26, presenting the Harriet K. Switzer Leadership Award and the Elizabeth Gray Danforth Scholarship to four students.

Class of 2015 celebrates first year

Members of the Class of 2015 enjoy pizza and Ted Drewes frozen custard April 25 outside Danforth University Center as part of this year’s Freshman Finale. The Freshman Class Council and First Year Center sponsored this signature celebration and time of reflection. During the event, awards were presented to people who have had a positive impact on the freshman experience this year.

WUSTL will hold a dedication ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, in Whitaker Hall to pay tribute to Scott and Pyong Rudolph while giving the Earth and Planetary Sciences building a new name. “Science Guy” Bill Nye is the guest speaker.

Women’s tennis places third at UAA Championship

The No. 11 women’s tennis team finished 2-1 at the 2012 University Athletic Association Championship to earn third place for the second year in a row. WUSTL (15-7) will wait for the official announcement of the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship bracket Monday, May 7, to find out whether it receives an at-large bid.
