Arts & Sciences unveils new undergraduate curriculum

The College of Arts & Sciences will introduce a newly revised curriculum, called Integrated InQuiry (IQ), for undergraduate students. Developed over a four-year process with input from students, faculty and administrators, IQ will be available to new undergraduates arriving this fall.

Outstanding Graduate Ashley Brosius: College of Arts & Sciences

Ashley Brosius, a triple-major in Arts & Sciences, is one of 12 Outstanding Graduates featured in the Record. She co-wrote and received a grant to design and implement a program called “Catalysts for Change,” which aimed to introduce local female high school students to STEM fields.

The Office’s Ellie Kemper on campus

Actress, writer and comedienne Ellie Kemper spoke at Graham Chapel April 26. Kemper is best known for her role as Erin Hannon in NBC’s comedy The Office. During her talk, Kemper discussed her rise in Hollywood, along with what it was like to be a pupil of Mad Men actor Jon Hamm at John Burroughs School.

Weight-loss surgery provides benefit to high-risk, severely obese patients

Among surgeries for obesity, a newer, increasingly popular procedure called sleeve gastrectomy provides more weight loss to high-risk, severely obese patients than adjustable gastric banding, a new study by Esteban Varela, MD, suggests.

Brown School honors ‘Everyday Heroes’

The Brown School awarded one Distinguished Faculty Award and three Distinguished Alumni Awards during its annual alumni awards celebration May 2 at Steinberg Hall Auditorium. A reception followed at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum.

Instead of throwing items away during move-out, donate them to Share Our Stuff (SOS). SOS seeks to reduce waste and share with those in need goods like furniture, clothing and food typically thrown away during move-out. SOS hosts drop-off points at Danforth Campus residential areas and off-campus.

Men’s tennis second at UAA championship

The No. 17 men’s tennis team posted a 2-1 record and took second place at the University Athletic Association Championship April 26-28. WUSTL defeated Brandeis University (8-1) and No. 13 Carnegie Mellon University (5-4) before falling to No. 2 Emory University in the championship game (8-1). WUSTL will wait to see if it receives an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament Monday, May 7.
