Drug makes leukemia more vulnerable to chemo

A new drug makes chemotherapy more effective in treating acute myeloid leukemia, a cancer of the white blood cells, according to John F. DiPersio, MD, PhD, and his School of Medicine colleagues. Instead of attacking these cells directly, the drug helps drive them out of the bone marrow and into the bloodstream, where they are more vulnerable to chemotherapy.

Young Choreographers Showcase this weekend

The Performing Arts Department (PAD) in Arts & Sciences will present its fifth biennial Young Choreographers Showcase Friday through Sunday, April 6-8, in the Annelise Mertz Dance Studio. The concert will feature more than a dozen dancers in 10 original works created by student choreographers in the Dance Program.

Education honor society buys 500 books for kids

WUSTL’s chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the international  honor society in education,  recently presented a book to every single child in Northview Elementary School as part of a literacy service project. Students spent the day at the school March 23, reading to the children and leading them in fun activities. ???

International Festival goes ‘Around the World’

Members of the African dance company Creative Pandemonium perform during the Brown School’s 18th annual International Festival March 25 at the 560 Music Center. This year’s theme was “Around the World in 180 Minutes.”

Baseball wins 20th game

The baseball team recorded 24 hits, including 10 for extra bases, as WUSTL earned its 20th win of the season — and 8th in a row — with a 25-13 victory over St. Norbert College April 1. WUSTL (20-6) hosts Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 4.
