83rd annual Fashion Design Show this Sunday

“As a designer, you want to make your statement,” says Jennifer Ingram, the W. H. Smith Visiting Assistant Professor of Fashion at WUSTL. “You want to inspire, you want to motivate.” Those ambitions and more will be on display this Sunday, April 29, with Leaving a Legacy, the Sam Fox School’s 83rd annual Fashion Design Show at Plaza Frontenac.

Thurtene Carnival???? swings onto campus?

Attendees dare to ride Pharaoh’s Fury at the 2012 Thurtene Carnival held this past weekend. The student-run carnival — featuring rides, games, plays and musical performances — has been part of campus life for more than 100 years. Proceeds from this year’s event benefited Guardian Angels Settlement Association.

Celebrating Earth Day at School of Medicine

In addition to energy, visitors learned about recycling, water conservation, and transportation and clean air.

Biology’s Spector Prize goes to Fahey

The 2012 Spector Prize, which recognizes outstanding undergraduate achievement in research, has been awarded to Paul Fahey, who graduated in December with a degree in biology in Arts & Sciences. Fahey’s thesis focused on Fragile X syndrome, the most common form of inherited mental retardation.

National Day of Prayer takes on added significance in 2012

The National Day of Prayer typically sparks debate about whether the day violates the establishment clause from the First Amendment. This year’s observance May 3 likely will take on added significance, says John Inazu, JD, First Amendment expert and professor of law. That’s because 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Engel v. Vitale, which invalidated official prayer in public schools.

Track & field teams fare well at Rose-Hulman Twilight

Sophomore Sarah Fisher (3,000-meter steeplechase) and senior Erica Jackey (800 meters) each set school records to help lead the women’s track & field team to the team title at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet April 20. The men’s team had three individual champions to highlight a third-place team finish. Both teams travel to Pittsburgh to compete at the University Athletic Association outdoor championships this Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29.
