Third-year law students Justin Lepp, Nick Rosinia and Mikela Sutrina are the first School of Law team to win the American Bar Association’s (ABA) National Appellate Advocacy Competition, the largest and most competitive moot court competition in the country.

David M. Jaffe, MD, was elected president of the Academic Pediatric Association at its recent annual meeting in Boston. Jaffe is the Dana Brown Professor of Pediatrics and director of the Division of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine and medical director of emergency services at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

The Advisory Committee for the Diversity and Inclusion Grants has awarded eight grants totaling nearly $174,000 to WUSTL faculty and administrators for initiatives that improve the university environment for women and members of underrepresented minority groups.

Seven distinguished alumni and a former dean of the School of Engineering & Applied Science were honored at a dinner April 19. Six received Alumni Achievement Awards, one a Young Alumni Award, and the former dean received the Dean’s Award. The honorees are: Larry Chiang, Richard Janis, Deepak Kantawala, Janice Karty, Milind Kulkarni, James McKelvey Jr., Jennifer Dionne and former Dean Sal Sutera.

The Gephardt Institute will host a discussion with former Democratic Rep. Richard A. ‘Dick’ Gephardt and former Republican Sen. Christopher S. ‘Kit’ Bond at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, in Simon Hall, Room 109. The two former Missouri legislators will engage students and faculty on the 2012 presidential and congressional elections.

The No. 2 women’s golf team held off a late charge from the University of Missouri-St. Louis to win the University of Illinois-Springfield Spring Shootout April 21 and 22. The team awaits word on a bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship May 8-11. The announcement will be made Monday, April 30.
