Chancellor’s Concert features more than
100 WUSTL musicians

Ah, spring. The rains rain, the flowers bloom, and the Department of Music in Arts & Sciences presents its annual Chancellor’s Concert. The performance — which takes place Sunday, April 22, in the 560 Music Center — features more than 100 musicians from the Washington University Symphony Orchestra and the Washington University Choirs.

Undergraduate interns in the Office of Admissions begin preparing materials for Multicultural Celebration Weekend that begins today. All this weekend, the WUSTL community will offer admitted students the opportunity to meet current students and faculty and attend classes and student group meetings.

Solving the mystery of kidney stones

New research by scientists at the School of Medicine provides evidence to explain why some people are more prone to develop kidney stones than others. The discovery will help find effective drug treatments and a test that could assess a person’s risk of kidney stones.

Earth Day is Sunday, April 22, and the Office of Sustainability is commemorating the day on the Danforth Campus by organizing several events during April, including a bioswale planting, panel discussion and more.

Most Americans favor higher taxes on rich,
survey finds

President Barack Obama lately has been arguing for increased taxes on the rich through his proposed “Buffett Rule,” which would ensure that millionaires and billionaires pay a minimum effective tax rate of 30 percent on their income. Most Americans, including supporters of presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, support such a move, finds The American Panel Survey (TAPS), WUSTL’s new monthly survey.

Jackey sets school record at SLU track meet

Senior Erica Jackey set a school record in the women’s 1,500 meters to highlight several strong performances by the men’s and women’s track & field teams at the Saint Louis University Invitational April 13 and 14. Jackey ran the fastest time in Division III this season (4:27.73) to break the previous school record by .37 of a second.
