Thurtene Carnival begins April 20

Hundreds of WUSTL students are working to host the oldest and largest student-run carnival in the United States. Thurtene Carnival will take place on the Danforth Campus near the intersection of Skinker Boulevard and Forest Park Parkway April 20-22. The carnival features amusement rides, games, food and family-friendly plays, musical acts and comedy skits.

Relay For Life, to benefit American Cancer Society, dedicated to McLeod

WUSTL will host Relay For Life, a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, from 6 p.m. Saturday, April 14, to 6 a.m. Sunday, April 15, on Francis Field. This year’s event is dedicated to the memory of James E. McLeod, former vice chancellor for students and dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, who died in September 2011 after a battle with cancer.

Arbor Day Foundation names WUSTL Tree Campus USA again

In March, WUSTL again was designated a Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of the university’s commitment to effective community forestry management. The university first was named a Tree Campus USA last year. Currently, the Danforth Campus is home to approximately 3,900 trees.

Google search advertising more valuable than previously thought

In a down economy where advertisers are concerned about every dollar spent, WUSTL researchers have developed a new method of measuring the effectiveness of Google search advertising, taking into account not only online sales but also goods or services purchased off-line.

Medical students present Urinetown April 19-21

School of Medicine students will perform Urinetown, this year’s annual spring musical, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, through Sunday, April 21, at the Whelpley Auditorium at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Tickets are $7 in advance or $12 at the door for students; and $12 in advance or $15 at the door for general admission.

Children’s Sustainability Art Contest winners on display

Artwork created by WUSTL employees’ children will be on display today through April 25 in the Farrell Learning and Teaching Center Atrium at the School of Medicine. The creations were part of a contest offered to children in kindergarten through high school to raise awareness among university families of the importance of sustainable living.

Baseball wins three games to go to 23-7

The No. 25 baseball team defeated Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 7-0 April 4 before winning two of three games against Hendrix College April 6 and 7. In the Rose-Hulman win, junior Stephen Bonser earned his second shutout win of the season while pitching his fourth complete game. The baseball team returns to action against Webster University Tuesday, April 17.
