WUSTL Green Offices Program launches

WUSTL’s new Green Offices Program has launched to encourage offices on all campuses to become more sustainable. In launching the program, the Office of Sustainability and Resource Management aims to give offices concrete sustainability tips that can easily be incorporated into everyday routine and practice.

Chess grandmaster on campus

Garry Kasparov, considered the best chess player of all time and a champion of democracy in Russia, recently visited the WUSTL campus and offered advice on outmaneuvering opponents in politics and business. In addition to his talk, Kasparov played a lucky audience member as part of a demonstration.

Wild author Strayed to read for Writing Program

At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she’d lost everything to cancer, grief and divorce. Four years later and still reeling, Strayed hiked the Pacific Crest Trail alone. The story of that journey is told in Wild, Strayed’s bestselling memoir. On Thursday, April 12, Strayed will read from her work for The Writing Program in Arts & Sciences.

Four to receive Virgil Ethic of Service Awards

Four members of the WUSTL community will be honored Wednesday, April 18, with the Gerry & Bob Virgil Ethic of Service Award. The annual awards are presented to WUSTL community members who exemplify a character of service and giving to the St. Louis region.

Seeking early-stage lung cancer patients with breathing problems for clinical trial

The Siteman Cancer Center at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital is seeking patients for a clinical study to determine the best treatment for patients with early-stage lung cancer who also have breathing problems. The study focuses on patients with the most common type of lung cancer, non-small cell lung cancer.

Sophomore sets WUSTL pole vault record

Sophomore Anna Etherington set a school record in the pole vault as one of eight event champions for the track & field team April 7 at the WU Select Meet. Both the men’s and women’s teams finished second. Etherington cleared 3.87 meters on her first attempt to win the event and break the four-year record of 3.76 meters set by Morgen Leonard-Fleckman.
