Adding ultrasound exams to annual breast cancer screening can detect more cancers in women who have dense breasts and are at a higher risk of breast cancer, according to a three-year, multi-center trial appearing this week in the Journal of the American Medical Association. But the scans carry risks that may outweigh their benefits.

Senior Daniel Rubin, a political science and history major in Arts & Sciences, is among 18 students nationwide to be selected as Luce Scholars. The competitive fellowship program aims to enhance understanding of Asia among potential leaders in American society. Rubin will receive a stipend, language training and professional placement in Asia.

Yet large numbers of artists and designers have emerged from the unique population, landscape and economy of the American Midwest. Thursday and Friday, April 12 and 13, the Sam Fox School will study culture in the heartland with Inland Symposium: CST, the third annual Inland Visual Studies Center symposium.

The softball team recorded 28 hits in two games as the Bears captured the Grinnell College Tournament Championship April 7. WUSTL had 12 hits in a 12-2 win in five innings over host Grinnell College, and then recorded 16 hits in a 13-2 six-inning victory over Nebraska Wesleyan University in the championship game.
