Two senior leadership appointments announced

Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton has announced two senior leadership appointments. Jennifer R. Smith, PhD (right), associate professor of earth and planetary sciences and of environmental studies, both in Arts & Sciences, has been named dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Sharon Stahl, PhD, associate vice chancellor for students and dean of the First Year Center, has been named vice chancellor for students.

Kathryn Dean installed as JoAnne Stolaroff Cotsen Professor

Kathryn A. Dean, director of the Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design and professor of architecture in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, was installed as the JoAnne Stolaroff Cotsen Professor of Architecture. The ceremony was held Dec. 2, 2011, in Steinberg Auditorium.

Students in the Program in Occupational Therapy talk with Liz Hanson (right) of MarianJoy at the Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy Job Fair Feb. 23 at the School of Medicine. More than 200 students from WUSTL and eight other schools attended the fair, which featured more than 50 representatives from employers.

Children’s Sustainability Art Contest entries due tomorrow

Entries for the Children’s Sustainability Art Contest are due Friday, March 9. Young family members of WUSTL and BJC faculty, staff, students and contract employees can submit original works of art that focus on sustainability. Winners will receive prizes from the Saint Louis Science Center, Missouri Botanical Garden and Magic House.

Softball opens with four wins

The softball team opened its season with four wins at the Warrior Spring Fling March 3 and 4 in Conway, Ark. The Bears swept games against Hendrix College (13-9, 15-6) and Spalding University (7-3, 12-0). WUSTL (4-0) begins a 12-game road trip to Florida with a pair of games on Saturday, March 10, against John Carroll University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
